Sharp Family

The line to which I am descended is highlighted below. 

1.  Isaac SHARP was born about 1750 in South Carolina, his family moved to Virginia at some point in his youth.  He is the son of William SHARP and Mary (last name unknown).  In 1777, in Greene County, Pennsylvania he married Mary WOOLVERTON (b. 4-22-1761 in New Jersey; died 8-26-1822 Waynesburgh, Green, Pennsylvania).   Mary is the daughter of John WOOLVERTON & Abigail DARBY.  Isaac & Mary had 13 children.  Isaac died February 12, 1831. 8   He is buried Waynesburgh Old Cemetery, Waynesburgh, Greene Co., Pennsylvania.

      10.  John SHARP was born July 26, 1779 at McNarlin’s Run, Greene Co., Pennsylvania; married in 1797 at Butler Co., Ohio, Elizabeth A. ELSTON (8-23-1776).  Elizabeth died 1-30-1819 in Butler Co., Ohio.  John and his children apparently moved to Decatur Co., Indiana where he later died in about 1842. 

              101.  Mary was born October 26, 1798 in Greene Co., Pennsylvania. 

              102.  Isaac was born August 13, 1800 in Greene Co., Pennsylvania.  He married Sarah ROZZEL in 1826 in Butler Co., OH.  He died Sept. 15, 1839 in Decatur Co., Indiana.

              103.  John Elston “Jacksonb. * May 1802 in Greene Co., PA.  He married Susannah ARMSTRONG 14 March 1824.  John died 29 March 1891 in Decatur, Indiana. 

              104.  Thomas b. Feb 20, 1804 in Ohio. 

              105.  Samuel b. 5 May 1806 in Ohio.  He died 6 Oct 1887 in Sandcreek TWP, Decatur, Indiana. 

              106.  Charlotte

           107.  Simeon b. 1 Jan. 1810 in Ohio ; married Mary LATSHAW, 10 Nov 1810.  He died 21 Mar. 1879 in Decatur Co., Indiana. 

             108.  Abdilla was born October 10, 1812 in Ohio.  He married Elizabeth LATSHAW on November 18, 1832.  He died June 13, 1897 in Ziff, Wayne Co., Illinois.

              10a.  William H. b. 17 June 1817 Hamilton, OH. Married Catherine Barnes. Died 1867 Independence, Arkansas.

+1a .Zachariah D. SHARP b. 1800 in  Waynesburgh, Greene Co. , Pennsylvania ; married Elizabeth YODERS, daughter of Jacob & Elizabeth YODERS.  Zachariah and Elizabeth were married  at Fredericktown, Washington Co., Pennsylvania approximately 1822.  Their children were:

              1a1.  Mary Ann b. June 1824, near Carter’s Creek, Pennsylvania ; married James HUGHES.  Mary Ann died 16 March 1912. 

            +1a2. William Woolverton was born, January 19, 1826 (Amity, Pa.), died August 4, 1883 (buried in Amity).  William married Margaret Jane SHARP (no relation, born April 1, 1831; died October 27, 1911) in 1847.   Prior to the war he worked as a doctor in Claysville9, West Middleton and Amwell twp11.  He mustered into the army as Assistant Surgeon on Sept. 12, 1862, D Company 14oth Pa Regiment.  Later became surgeon of the 18th Cavalry, 163rd PA Regiment on January 13, 1864.  He was discharged from service October 14, 1864.  William contracted malaria in Virginia while serving with Generals Sheridan and Kilpatrick.  Children:

                +1a23. Jacob Richard was born January 7, 1853 at Amity, Pennsylvania.  He married Florabelle BRADEN (sister of Leroy BRADEN married to 1a26. Emma SHARP) January 15, 1876.  Jacob died March 9, 1930, possibly in Bealsville, Washington Co., PA.  (Cemetery Marker)             

       +1a231.  Bayard Taylor b.  1876 in Pennsylvania ; married Myrtle Elizabeth LEWIS ; Bayard died July 12, 1969 at Longview Hospital in North Kingsville, Ohio.13   (Cemetery Marker)

                 1a2311.  Wilma Esther b. 4 April 1899 in Conneaut, Ohio.  She married Ray M FILLINGER, also of Conneaut.  Wilma died in 1984.  She lived for a time in Erie, Pennsylvania and also in Floral City, Florida.  She is buried along side her husband in the Furnace Road Cemetery, Conneaut, Ohio.

                 1a2312.  Jean R. was born 1901 in Conneaut, Ashtabula, Ohio ; died 1927.  He is interred at Glenwood Cemetery, Rt. 20, Conneaut, Ohio.  (Cemetery Marker)

                 1a2313.  Donald W born about 1905 in Conneaut, Ohio.

                 1a2314.  Walter Darwin, “RED”,  was born 5 Sept 1906 in Conneaut, Ohio.  He married, on 11 June 1927, Laina L RANKINEN, (daughter of Hjalmar RANKINEN & Hilma Orrenmaa, also of Conneaut, Ohio).  Walter was an engineer for the Nickel Plate Norfolk & Western Railroad for 48 years.  Walter died 26 June 1987.  Laina died May 5, 2001.  They are buried at Glenwood Cemetery, Conneaut, Ohio. 

                                1a23141.   William D was born February 19, 1937 in Conneaut, OH.  He died December 28, 1978 in Alameda, CA.  He is buried in Conneaut, OH. 

                                1a23142.   Walter Darwin , Jr was born April 11, 1938 in Conneaut, OH.  Walter Jr. served in the US Navy during the Korean War.  He died January 22, 2000.  He is buried in Conneaut, Oh.  (Cemetery Marker)

              +1a2316.  Homer Leroy born July 12, 1897 in Pennsylvania.  He married on February 5, 1917, Marian Ruth JENNESS (b. 2-12-1896 in Franklin Center, Pennsylvania.  She is the daughter of George Washington JENNESS and Elma Jane HOWARD; died February 1990 in Fairview, Pennsylvania.) Homer died April 20, 1977 in Floral City, Florida.  Homer and Marian are buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Rt. 20, Conneaut, Ohio.

1a24William P H was born in 1859, Amity, PA.  He married Annie MURPHY, June 9, 1881.

                    1a26Emma B. b. about 1858, Amity, Pa.  Emma married Dr. Leroy W BRADEN.  Emma died in 1936 and is interred at the Pleasant Hill Oak Cemetery in Amwell PA with her husband.

                    1a27.  Isabel b. 1854, Amity, Washington, PA; married Isaac DOTY.  “Belle” died 1923 and is buried Amity Presbyterian Cemetery, Amity, Amwell Twp, Washington, Pennsylvania.

        1a3.  Jacob Yoders born 16 July 1828, Amity, Pa ; died 10 January 1843.  The cause of death is listed as “Brain Fever”.

1a4.  Isaac b. December 16, 1830,  Amity, Amwell Twp, Washington, Pennsylvania.  Isaac was the tanner in Amity, Pennsylvania.  He mustered into Company D, 140th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, August 22, 1862 as corporal.  At Chancellorsville, Isaac, while lifting a lumber of the 5th Maine Battery, had a shell just miss his feet. He was promoted to Sergeant November 1, 1863.  His wife was Lavina BANE. He died in Washington, Pa. in 1907.   Children were :

                       1a41.  Mary Flora was born in 1852 in Pennsylvania.  Shemarried James Patterson SAYERS on November 17, 1870.

    1a5.  Cephas Dodd born 6 June 1834 Washington Co., Pa.  Prior to joining the 140th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (PVI), he was the miller in Amity.  Mustered in August 22, 1862 as a Sergeant.  Cephas died August 2, 1863 in Cunningham’s barnyard of wounds received at Gettysburg July 2nd.  He was shot in the thighs and knees.     Click here for Cephas’ Military Page

   1a6.  Manean born Oct. 22, 1837 Amity, Amwell Twp, Washington, Pennsylvania.  He married Sarah A. BEBOUT on April 8, 1858 in Pennsylvania.  In 1861 Manaen enlisted in Company B (M. Zollars, Capt.), Eighty-Fifth P. V. I., Joshua B. HOWELL commanding.  During the winter of 1861-62 the regiment was quartered at Fort Good Hope, Washington, D. C.  He took part in the siege of Yorktown, and the battle of Williamsburg, and in September, 1862, was discharged at Philadelphia on account of disability.                                 

             1a7.  Elizabeth Jane born about 1840 at Amity, Amwell Twp, Washington, Pennsylvania; married James A. BEBOUT.  Prior to entering the service, James BEBOUT was “…the Justice of the Peace of the township, the Captain of the Company, the expert cabinet maker and village undertaker…”  He mustered into Company D August 22, 1862 as a Corporal.  He and Isaac SHARP were two of the men from Company D who helped rescue the artillery pieces of the 5th Maine at Chancellorsville.  He died at Gettysburg in the wheatfield.  “A. J. Swart, at the risk of his life, tried to take with him his wounded friend and comrade, James A. BEBOUT, and had taken him some distance when the enemy came so close that his wounded friend requested him to lay him down and save himself from capture.  After the repulse on the third day at Gettysburg, Enoch FRENCH found the dead body of James A. BEBOUT, where it had been placed between two rocks by A. J. SWART.  He pinned a paper to his coat with his name on it and a request to the burial party to mark his grave.  He sent home what he found in his pockets.”

          +1a8.  Nancy Maria b. 18 January 1843 ; married William KELLEY.  Nancy & William were married at her parents home in Amity, 22 Sep 1859.  Nancy Maria died 18 April 1916.

          +1a9.  Zachariah D, Jr.  born 11 April 1845 at Amity, Amwell TWP, Washington, Pennsylvania ;  January 1872 he married Pauline GAUS (b. 1848 in Germany); Zachariah Jr. died, in Amity, 19 September 1884.

+1c. Manaen SHARP  born May 17, 1805.  He married Lucinda TANNER, January 10, 1828.  Manaen died in 1835, possibly in Indiana.
